Insieme
Insieme is a collection of napkins for the everyday table designed by Flatwig Studio from fabric leftovers donated by the Milanese brand Laurels Apron, a fashion atelier producing organic cotton and hemp workwear. Each napkin is a unique piece and it is realised upon request through the combination of two irregularly shaped fabric leftovers. “Insieme” (meaning “together” in Italian) aims to be a message of hope in the context of the pandemic. The term “insieme” also refers to the process and the gestures behind the design of a single napkin, which is made from the composition of two fabric leftovers with details inspired by the Heirloom stitch and the popular tradition of patchwork. Circularity is the common thread of the project, which becomes evident in the recovery of pre-existing elements transformed in decorative details. This is the case also with the selvedge, an edge of a piece of fabric that keeps it from unravelling, transformed here in a decorative element.

Unique pieces, conceived as an open series, the napkins of the first Insieme collection by Flatwig Studio are available in four different colours that can be coordinated at will (Natural, Olive, Burnt e Peach nougat). Due to the circular nature of the project, the availability of fabric and of the colours depends on the production by Laurels Apron. Natural fabrics and delicate colours define the character of this first series in collaboration with Laurels Apron, while stitchings and edges give uniformity to the collection.
The napkins are characterised by variable shapes, they are unique pieces and measure approximately 25 x 25 cm, which is the standard size of tea and cocktail napkins. The napkins can be freely folded without following a precise scheme, highlighting every time a different element such as the central stitch or a curve.
